Parade May 9 in Moscow will be held without military equipment: What happened?

Russian authorities officially canceled the passage of columns of military equipment during a parade on Red Square on May 9. This year, the event will be limited only to foot calculations and aviation, which the defense department of the aggressor country explains as “the current situation.”

This was reported by the Russian media with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, informs the portal PromPolitInform.

Changes in the format of the event affected not only the technical component, but also the number of personnel.

What will remain of the parade

According to the plan of the Russian Ministry of Defense, servicemen of the Russian army will take part in the event. The air part of the program currently remains in force: the flight of aerobatic teams and Su-25 attack aircraft is expected.

At the same time, it was decided to completely abandon the columns of military equipment. According to Russian propaganda media, such a decision was made “in connection with the current situation.” In addition, due to the “operational situation” this year, cadets of military schools, which traditionally made up a significant part of the walking columns, will not participate in the parade.

Downward trend and logistical challenges

It is worth recalling that from 2022 the scale of the Victory Day parades in Russian cities is systematically decreasing. Every year, the Russian authorities bring fewer units of weapons and equipment to the streets.

In parallel with internal constraints, the Kremlin faces logistical difficulties for foreign visitors. In particular, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who planned to visit Moscow on May 9, complained about the impossibility of the flight. According to him, Lithuania and Latvia allegedly refused to let his plane to Russia through its airspace.
