President Vladimir Zelensky signed laws to extend martial law and mobilization for 90 days – until August 2, 2026.
This was reported by the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, informs the portal PromPolitInform.
Thus, the head of state signed the bill “On the extension of the martial law in Ukraine” and “On the extension of the period of general mobilization.”
The Verkhovna Rada supported the relevant bills during the voting on April 28.
It was the 19th vote for the extension of martial law since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
What is martial law
Martial law is a special legal regime introduced after a full-scale invasion of Russia. It is introduced in the event of a threat to the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine through armed aggression or a possible attack.
This regime provides for the expansion of powers of state authorities, military command, local administrations and self-government bodies. This is necessary to prevent threats and repel aggression.
Mobilization is subject to:
citizens of Ukraine aged 25 to 60 years, who are on military registration or must become on it;
persons fit for health reasons for service;
citizens who do not have legal grounds for postponement.
First, the mobilized are sent to BZVP to training centers, where vocational training takes place.
Women with medical education can also be mobilized, but only on a voluntary basis.
Recall that Ukraine is preparing changes in approaches to mobilization. We are talking about the wider involvement of military personnel on a contract basis and the gradual updating of existing procedures for recruitment and service.
In addition, the Ministry of Defense is working on a comprehensive reform of the conditions of service and recruiting in the Defense Forces of Ukraine. The first 10 out of 30 projects are almost ready for launch. The authorities promise to publish the details of the next stages later.
