Kyivstar is expanding the geography of fifth-generation communication testing – now 5G has appeared in Kyiv. The successful testing of the network in the capital is reported by the telegram community “MZU – Mobile Communications of Ukraine,” informs the portal PromPolitInform.
According to the community, testing was carried out in the area of the railway station on a Pixel 9 smartphone. The network worked in 5G NSA (Non-Standalone) mode in the n78 range, and the equipment for it is supplied by the Swedish company Ericsson.
At the same time, Kyivstar continues to develop existing pilot zones – in Lviv, Kharkiv and Borodyanka. In the near future Odessa will join them. Testing takes place in real urban conditions – the operator monitors the network load, the behavior of subscribers and the efficiency of the equipment. The collected data will be the basis for planning the full deployment of 5G in Ukraine after the war.
Since the launch of the first pilot sites in January 2026, almost 500 thousand subscribers have used Kyivstar’s 5G network. Every day, about 50 thousand people use the new technology. In the pilot zones of Lviv and Kharkiv, the share of 5G reaches 40% of the total data traffic – in total, the network has already processed more than 358 TB in the new standard.
