Over the past year, law enforcement shut down 340 fraudulent offices and 5,000 workstations
The Office of the Prosecutor General has launched an investigation into one of its employees suspected of involvement in the operation of scam call centers. The individual has been suspended from official duties for the duration of the pre-trial investigation. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
The agency emphasized that it will provide full cooperation to anti-corruption authorities in gathering information to establish all the details of the case. The official will face accountability in accordance with the law if the allegations of misconduct are proven.
Combating telephone fraud networks remains a priority for the law enforcement system. Over the last 12 months, the Prosecutor’s Office has conducted more than 1,050 authorized raids on such facilities. As a result of joint efforts by security forces, 340 scam centers were shut down, totaling 5,000 equipped operator workstations.
In addition to domestic operations, the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office is actively engaged in international efforts. Specifically, agency representatives have joined 37 joint investigative teams coordinated by Eurojust and supported by Europol.
Currently, investigative bodies are processing 147 criminal cases related to call center activities. During this period, more than 183 individuals have been notified of suspicion, and indictments against 93 suspects have been forwarded to court. The losses caused to victims by these illicit activities are estimated to reach tens of millions of hryvnias.
