Over 74,000 students enrolled in vocational education in 2026

Most students were admitted to budget-funded places under state or regional orders

This year, 74,112 people enrolled in vocational education institutions in Ukraine, with the total number of applications reaching 97,500. Nearly 98% of all admitted students will study for free, funded by state or regional orders. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine (Ірина Костенко) citing the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

Today, there are 513 institutions operating in the country that provide training for specialists in critical sectors of the economy. The list of industries with the highest demand for graduates includes industry, energy, construction, transport, and catering.

A significant portion of new students, specifically 69%, are teenagers who completed their ninth-grade studies in school. This amounts to 51,000 individuals who will begin their career paths by mastering specific vocational skills.

Most popular professional directions

Analysis of the admission campaign demonstrates a steady demand for culinary specialties. The highest number of applicants—9,350 applications—was recorded for cook and pastry chef training programs. Additionally, 2,133 applications were submitted for a separate training program for the “cook” qualification.

Also among the leaders were professions related to machinery maintenance and services. Specifically, 2,643 applications were submitted for training as “tractor operator, mechanic, and driver,” 2,551 for “hairdresser/stylist and manicurist,” and 2,508 for “wheel vehicle repair mechanic and driver.”

Vocational education development strategy

As noted by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Dmytro Zavhorodniy, the main task remains to build an effective transition from training to actual employment. To achieve this, the ministry is focusing on modernizing training workshops and updating educational programs to meet business requirements.

In addition to school graduates, adult citizens who wish to retrain or improve their existing skills can also pursue this education. A voucher mechanism, with a value of 33,000 hryvnias, is available for specific categories of the population.

To provide comprehensive information on admissions and the specifics of each specialty, a specialized platform called “Professional College” has been launched. The platform is designed to assist both applicants and adults in making informed decisions about choosing an institution and a training direction.
