The manufacturing capacity of Ukraine's defence industry has reached $55 billion
Representatives of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine attended the NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council meeting. Delegates from Alliance member states were briefed on the rapid growth of Ukraine's defence industry and key procurement reforms. Ukraine's total defence production capacity is currently estimated at $55 billion. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, based on data from NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council.
The main advantage of the Ukrainian defence industrial complex is the rapid deployment of new technologies, moving from frontline requests to mass production within three to six months. In NATO member countries, a similar innovation cycle typically takes 10 to 15 years.
Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine for European Integration Serhiy Boiev noted that in 2025 alone, more than 1,300 new items of domestically produced weapons and military equipment were authorized for operation.
Military Engagement and Budget Allocation
The rapid adoption of new technologies was made possible by a direct feedback loop between manufacturers and military units. Combat brigades have received their own procurement budgets, allowing them to directly evaluate factory developments.
“Under the new procurement rules, 80% of the budget goes to those who have learned to deliver results. If you don’t improve your product, you lose instantly,” emphasized Serhiy Boiev.
Integration into NATO Defence Initiatives
NATO has allocated $50 billion for new procurements and accelerating innovation. Ukraine aims to become part of this architecture through dedicated cooperation frameworks, including Build with Ukraine, Drone Deals, EDIP, EDF, and others.
At the same time, a comprehensive overhaul of the military supply system and anti-corruption measures is underway.
Procurement Reforms and Transparency
Deputy Minister of Defence Mstyslav Banik stated that transitioning to competitive procedures and transparent mechanisms helps eliminate shadow schemes and ensures fair play for all suppliers.
“Our partners see this – we are open to any of their questions or requests and always provide complete information so that we can continue receiving support,” highlighted Mstyslav Banik.
All procurement changes are implemented in strict compliance with the NATO-Ukraine Strategic Defence Procurement Review and high-level recommendations agreed upon by the NATO-Ukraine Council Defence and Security Committee.
