Steel frames show higher resistance to blast waves compared to masonry

Over the past year, the demand structure for light gauge steel framing (LGSF) in Ukraine has remained stable, with the industrial sector accounting for the majority of orders. Manufacturers report an increase in requests related to the reconstruction of damaged facilities and the integration of protective shelters. This was reported by Metal citing UCCM, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

According to Denys Tikhonov, Director of Redicon Engineering, enterprises and business entities account for 60% to 70% of total orders. Companies most often require solutions for constructing warehouse facilities, office buildings, and installing facade subsystems.

The private sector makes up 30% to 40% of the market, focusing on cottage construction and the procurement of prefabricated metal elements. The highest interest is observed in new construction and renovation, specifically in the form of adding storeys or attic spaces.

Reconstruction after damage

Due to ongoing Russian shelling, the share of projects aimed at repairing and rebuilding damaged buildings has increased in the country. Unlike brittle construction materials such as aerated concrete or brick, a steel frame acts as a unified spatial system.

Under the dynamic impact of a blast wave, the structures are capable of deforming, thereby absorbing the energy of the impact. This allows the framework to maintain its integrity, which simplifies repairs in practice: often, it is sufficient to replace only locally damaged sections instead of undergoing a global reconstruction.

Design of protective structures

Current realities are forcing businesses to pay more attention to the safety of staff and property. Redicon Engineering is receiving a significant number of requests regarding the creation of reliable shelters within commercial and industrial facilities.

Experts offer clients two main approaches: designing buildings with integrated shelters or constructing underground protective enclosures. Furthermore, there is a steady demand for using light metal structures to create protective barriers at infrastructure facilities.
