On 17 October 2026, Vinnytsia lost electricity following a Russian strike. This was reported by Ukrinform citing Serhiy Morgunov, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
A large-scale blackout occurred in Vinnytsia after a Russian strike on the city’s power grid. Mayor Serhiy Morgunov announced this on Facebook, adding that while damage assessment is ongoing, critical infrastructure has already switched to backup power.
Loss of electric transport and alternative communication channels
During the power outage, electric transport will not operate. Instead, the number of buses and route taxis will be increased to ensure residents’ mobility. Morgunov also advised tuning into radio station ‘Misto nad Buhom’ at 101.8 FM in case of internet loss for updated information.
Substation damage and widespread power loss
According to PJSC Vinnytsiaoblenergo, one substation was damaged as a result of the strike, leading to power loss across tens of thousands of metering points. The company confirmed that all emergency crews are working continuously, and electricity supply is being gradually restored.
Energy company workers continue damage control
Vinnytsiaoblenergo stated that the scale of the work is very large, but energy workers are prepared for such challenges and are making maximum efforts to restore power to Vinnytsia residents’ homes as quickly as possible.
