Protecting large industrial sites from enemy drones requires investments of 20–40 million UAH
Minimum costs for organizing a private air defense unit for Ukrainian enterprises start from 4 million UAH. Setting up a full-fledged system with an efficiency of over 75% will cost businesses over 14 million UAH per point. This was reported by Delo.ua citing Dmytro Riabyi, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Implementing individual solutions to counter aerial threats requires investments, the amount of which depends directly on the technical complexity of the site and the level of protection needed. To ensure the security of large industrial facilities, capital expenditures can range from 20 to 40 million UAH, notes Dmytro Riabyi, Deputy Director of Operational Activities at Innovative Security Complexes of the SHERIFF security group.
Economic viability of protection
When evaluating the feasibility of such projects, experts advise comparing the cost of the technical solution against potential losses in the event of drone strikes on production facilities or critical infrastructure. In conditions where possible asset destruction is valued at billions of hryvnias, investments of tens of millions are seen as a justified mechanism for mitigating business risks.
Operational costs and maintenance
Beyond initial capital expenditures on equipment, business owners must account for recurring costs to maintain system performance and cover personnel salaries. Specifically, the maintenance of one professional drone operator costs at least 120,000–140,000 UAH per month.
At present, the funding model for these initiatives can be flexible, distributing costs between the system operator and the customer company. Although the relevant government project was launched in November 2025, the private air defense mechanism has not become widespread due to high implementation costs and the need for specialized personnel training.
