Poland Plans to Increase Cash Requirements for Foreigners Entering the Country

Cash amounts for foreigners at the border have not been reviewed since 2016

The Ministry of Interior and Administration of Poland has prepared a draft decree on increasing the cash amounts that foreigners are required to have when crossing the border. The previous rules had remained unchanged since 2016, necessitating a review due to inflation. This was reported by Gazeta Prawna citing PAP, according to the portal PromPolitInform.

The updated requirements were published on the Rządowego Centrum Legislacji platform, and the changes will affect various categories of travelers. The document provides for a revision of financial standards for tourists, students, and persons arriving for medical treatment.

New Amounts for Short-Term and Long-Term Visits

For short trips lasting up to four days, the minimum threshold of funds will increase from 300 zlotys to 1000 zlotys. In the case of longer trips, the daily amount will increase from 75 zlotys to 300 zlotys for each day of stay.

Requirements for Students and Participants of Organized Trips

For those arriving for studies or scientific research, the amount for the first two months will change from 1270 zlotys to 2020 zlotys. Separate rules are provided for participants in sports competitions, youth camps, or sanatorium treatment, where the daily limit will rise to a minimum of 130 zlotys, and the total amount will be at least 650 zlotys.

Justification and Entry into Force

The authors of the initiative explained that the need for adjustment is caused by a significant change in prices for goods and services in recent years. In addition, the new indicators align Polish regulations with European reference values in other Schengen area countries. The adopted rules will take effect thirty days after their official publication.
