Sixteen doctors working at frontline stabilization points completed the training
Ukraine has hosted the first Tryzub international course on military surgery and resuscitation. The training was initiated by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. The programme was aimed at strengthening the skills of medical teams that treat wounded soldiers near the front line. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
Foreign specialists joined the practical training as instructors. The courses were taught by experts from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the International Association for Trauma Surgery and Intensive Care (IATSIC).
Sixteen medical professionals completed the training — eight surgeons and eight anaesthesiologists. All of them serve in forward surgical groups and at stabilization points near the line of contact.
Three Training Modules to NATO Standards
The week-long curriculum covered three key training modules. The doctors mastered Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), Definitive Surgical Trauma Care (DSTC), and Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma (ASSET).
A major focus of the course was joint training for surgeons and anaesthesiologists to enhance teamwork during critical procedures.
“When a soldier goes into battle, he needs to know that in the event of injury, there will be people nearby who will do everything possible to save his life,” stressed Yevhenii Khmara, Minister of Defence of Ukraine.
Scaling Up the Pilot Project
The organisers noted that Tryzub is a pilot project within a new system for training Ukrainian military medical staff. It aims to introduce best practices used in the United States and other NATO countries.
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine plans to expand the course to cover all surgeons and anaesthesiologists in the Defence Forces. The initiative was supported by international partners Razom4Ukraine and Expertise France.
