The sarcophagus at the Chernobyl NPP should be dismantled as soon as possible, the risk of the structure collapsing is increasing
This is reported by RegioNews with reference to the Greenpeace Ukraine report, the PromPolitInform portal reports.
It is noted that the damage to the sarcophagus was caused by a Russian drone attack in February 2025.
“The sarcophagus is subject to dismantling as soon as possible, but due to damage to the NSC, this is currently impossible,” the report says.
Senior nuclear specialist at Greenpeace Ukraine, Sean Burney, stated that “the strike by the Russian drone increased the risk of the sarcophagus collapsing even before its safe dismantling.”
As reported, after the drone attack on the Chernobyl NPP, extensive damage was recorded that could affect radiation safety.
