Trump first spoke about the defeat of Orban and noted that he likes the new Prime Minister of Hungary

The American president said that the result of the elections in Hungary did not come as a surprise to him, because, according to Trump, Orban was “significantly behind.”

US President Donald Trump said that he was not worried about the defeat of long-term ally Viktor Orban in the parliamentary elections in Hungary, which he said comments to the journalist ABC News, informs the portal PromPolitInform.

This was Trump’s first public reaction to the defeat of Orban, who was previously often called one of his closest allies in Europe.

According to Trump, he positively evaluates the new Prime Minister Peter Magyar and believes that he will cope with his work.

“I think the newcomer will do a good job – he’s a good person,” Trump said.

He also stressed that the result of the vote was not a surprise for him, because, according to him, Orban “was far behind.”

“I wasn’t that much involved in it. Victor, however, is a good man,” the US president added.

Trump noted that he did not know whether his personal visit to Hungary would have changed anything instead of Vice President JD Vance, who came to campaign for Orban on the eve of the election.

Interestingly, on April 10, Trump called for voting for Orban in the elections and called him a “true friend.”

Viktor Orban lost power after 16 years as prime minister. According to the results of the vote, the Hungarians with a record turnout supported the pro-European course, which is represented by the center-right opposition leader Peter Magyar.
