Zelensky announced the creation of a European anti-ballistic system together with partners. The project should reduce dependence on the supply of Patriot missiles.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced negotiations with European partners on the joint creation of a modern air defense system capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, similar to Patriot. He said this during an interview on the air of a telethon, UNN reports. The PromPolitInform portal reports.
According to the Head of State, Ukraine intends to develop its own anti-ballistic system in cooperation with European countries in a short time.
“We must have an anti-ballistic European system. We are talking with several states, we are working in this direction. We need to create our own anti-ballistic system in a year,” the President emphasized, adding that the task is difficult, but realistic.
He clarified that he had already held talks with key European states on this issue, although the details are still being clarified.
The President emphasized that the creation of its own air defense system is an important step to reduce Ukraine’s dependence on the supply of American Patriot complexes and missiles for them.
At the same time, Zelensky noted that agreements with Germany on the supply of missiles for Patriot have already been reached, but their implementation depends on production capabilities and will not be quick.
Somewhat earlier it became known that Germany and Ukraine had agreed to cooperate in the development of ballistic missile defense systems, in particular the Iskander-M type. Presumably, this is a joint development of new missiles, which Ukrainian and European companies may join. In particular, the participation of German manufacturers such as Diehl Defence and MBDA Germany is being considered.
