What will change in May 2026: the main financial innovations in Ukraine

In May 2026, Ukrainians will face several financial innovations. Social standards will remain at the current level, that is, pension payments and the minimum wage will not change. However, changes are expected in the supervision of banking institutions and the launch of a new electronic register. News.LIVE tells about the main financial innovations of May 2026. The PromPolitInform portal reports.

Strengthening banking supervision

The National Bank has introduced new approaches to establishing requirements and restrictions on the activities of banking institutions, focusing on applying a risk-based approach. This is part of the step-by-step implementation of European Union rules.

The changes were approved by Resolution of the NBU Board No. 27, the document will enter into force on May 1, 2026. Among the key innovations are:

the procedure for establishing restrictions on banking activities in the event of a deterioration in the financial situation (in the event of a threat to depositors and other clients);

a mechanism for making demands on banks based on the results of on-site supervision (this involves approving a plan that will improve the situation and reduce risks);

enhanced supervision over the launch of new banking products.

It is assumed that the changes will allow for a timely response to problems, increase the stability of the banking system and protect the money of Ukrainians.

Unified Register of Qualifications

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the creation of a new electronic register that will store information on professional standards, qualification centers and accreditation experts. The tool will combine information that will be useful to both employees and employers.

This is provided for by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 1387 “Some Issues of the Functioning of the Unified Register of Qualifications – Classifier of Professions”. Access to the platform will be free of charge and open to all citizens of Ukraine.

The register will contain addresses of qualification centers, professional requirements, information about accreditation experts, etc. Companies looking for qualified employees will be able to use the tool for personnel selection and development of subordinates.

What else should Ukrainians know

Previously, we wrote about the minimum and average salaries in Germany after taxes. The lower limit is at 2,418 euros per month, but employees receive from 1,650 to 1,850 euros “in cash”.

We also reported that some Ukrainians can receive a one-time benefit in case of disability. This refers to full or partial loss of working capacity as a result of war or the performance of official duties. The funds are provided for active military personnel, conscripts and reservists.
