The protected 900 m² facility is capable of accommodating 140 people
The first underground kindergarten has opened in frontline Zaporizhzhia, capable of hosting 115 children. The space, spanning over 900 square meters, is equipped as a shelter where children can stay throughout the day. This is reported by the portal PromPolitInform, citing information from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The facility was established within a radiation shelter designed to accommodate up to 140 people simultaneously. The premises are fully adapted to children’s needs, including areas for daytime rest, learning zones, and meal services.
Safe infrastructure for learning
The project is part of a strategy by central and local authorities aimed at ensuring the continuity of the educational process in regions under constant threat of enemy shelling. Special attention during construction was paid to inclusivity, ensuring comfortable conditions for children with special educational needs.
As emphasized by Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Koretskyi, a priority for the government remains the creation of a protected environment for students in frontline cities and territorial communities. According to him, cooperation with local authorities allows for adapting existing premises to wartime challenges while continuing to develop social infrastructure.
