Army reform and new salaries: Zelensky announced payments of up to 400 thousand for infantry and at least 30 thousand for the rear

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the launch of a large-scale reform of the Defense Forces, the key element of which will be a significant increase in the monetary provision of military personnel. The new payment system will be based on the principle of fairness and will take into account combat experience and complexity of tasks.

The Head of State announced this in his social networks, outlining the time limits for introducing changes, informs the portal PromPolitInform.

Reform schedule and new payment levels

According to the President, during April, the military command and the government agreed on a formula for changes, and in May, finalization of all details continues. The official start of the reform is scheduled for June 2026.

“In June, the reform starts, and in June there should be the first results, in particular in the field of financial support for soldiers, sergeants and commanders of the Defense Forces of Ukraine,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized.

According to the instructions of the President, the financial security will be distributed according to the following criteria:

Rear positions: the minimum level of payments should be at least 30 thousand hryvnia.
Combat positions: the level of support will increase “at times” compared to the rear.
Command staff: combat sergeants and officers will receive a “decent and significantly increased” level of payments.

The Head of State stressed that real combat and managerial experience, as well as the effectiveness of a soldier on the first line, should guarantee an increase in financial remuneration.

Special conditions for infantry

A separate emphasis in the reform is made on the support of infantrymen. Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed to introduce special contracts for this particular category of fighters. Cash payments under such contracts will range from 250 to 400 thousand hryvnia, depending on the specifics and effectiveness of combat missions.

Recall that at the end of March, Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov reported that his team was preparing separate approaches for attack aircraft and infantrymen, which would concern not only monetary support, but also the revision of service life and decisions on the unauthorized abandonment of units.
