Four Italian troops were injured as a result of misdirected gunfire at a training ground
An armed incident occurred during North Atlantic Treaty Organization military maneuvers in Latvia. As a result of so-called friendly fire, four service members from Italy sustained injuries of varying severity. This was reported by Il Sole 24 Ore, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
The incident took place directly during the execution of training tasks by the international contingent. Military units were practicing coordination at the training ground when errant fire hit friendly forces.
The wounded soldiers were promptly given first aid at the scene. All four injured Italian troops were immediately hospitalized at the nearest medical facility.
Medical condition of the injured service members
According to relevant departments, the lives of the personnel and service members are currently not in danger. Medics assess the health condition of those hospitalized as stable.
The contingent command has launched an internal investigation to clarify all circumstances and causes of this incident. Experts are analyzing the firing procedures and adherence to safety protocols.
