The United States will pass the energy truce proposal to the Russian side
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York, commented on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's statements regarding the Donetsk region. The Ukrainian leader called it yet another similar promise to seize the territory within months. This was reported by Glavcom, according to the portal PromPolitInform.
Addressing the international community, the Ukrainian leader drew attention to the Kremlin chief’s latest statements regarding the region. According to him, similar assurances are regularly voiced by the Russian leadership but fail to materialize in practice.
Proposal for an Energy Truce
In addition, the United States of America is expected to convey an initiative to the Russian side concerning a mutual cessation of strikes on critical infrastructure. The plan involves halting attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities in exchange for stopping strikes on Russian oil refineries.
The Ukrainian leader discussed this during a media interaction following negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump. Such initiatives are designed to stabilize the situation during the upcoming heating season.
Consequences for Russian Energy Sector
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also warned Moscow against continuing massive shelling of Ukrainian thermal power plants and energy supply facilities. In the event of new attacks, the Ukrainian side will be forced to respond symmetrically.
«Ukrainians understand that this winter can be very severe for us, but in response we will have no other choice but to make it painful for Russia as well», — said Zelenskyy.
The UN General Assembly served as a platform to discuss key aspects of the confrontation, losses of the Russian army, and prospects for military technology development. The Ukrainian delegation continues to emphasize the necessity of supporting sovereignty.
