In Ukraine, created the ARES Military Expert Council under the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The main task of the ARES Council will be the exchange of advanced Ukrainian and international experience for the development of the army, as well as support for institutional changes in the management system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine created the ARES (Allied Reform and Expert Support) Military Expert Council, an advisory body to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the General Staff said, the PromPolitInform portal informs.

According to the General Staff, the main task of the council will be the exchange of advanced Ukrainian and international experience for the development of the army, as well as support for institutional changes in the management system of the Armed Forces.

Among the priorities are the development of military science and education, increasing the effectiveness of meeting the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as advisory support on other issues related to the powers of the Commander-in-Chief.

The chairman of the council was appointed British General Sir Richard Shirreff, who in 2011-2014 served as Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Armed Forces of NATO.

The council included:

General David Petraeus – Director of the US Central Intelligence Agency in 2011-2012;
Admiral Manfred Nielson – Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (DSACT) 2016-2019;
Lieutenant General Pavel Matsko – Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic in 2013-2018;
Vice Admiral Sir Martin John Connell – Second Sea Lord and Deputy Chief of Staff of the British Navy in 2022-2025;
Lieutenant General Andrew Leslie – Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Canada in 2006-2010;
Major General Patrick Carpentier – Commander of the Joint Operational Group North of the Canadian Armed Forces in 2017-2020;
Commodore Hans Helset is a representative of the Norwegian Navy in NATO structures.

The General Staff added that preparations are underway for the first meeting and the beginning of the practical work of the Military Expert Council.
